Hello! We are planning our first trip to WDW in late August 2010. We have 2 girls ages 4 and 6. We are trying to decide between a moderate resort or the Wilderness Lodge. Is there a big difference between the 2? If Moderate what would you recommend?

    Hi Daphne!

I absolutely love the Wilderness Lodge. It is my favorite resort at Walt Disney World. It's themed after the grand forest lodges of the American Northwest. When I'm there I feel like I'm no longer in Florida, and definitely not right around the corner from the Magic Kingdom. Silver Creek Springs Pool is a beautiful pool with two hot tubs, a water slide, and a great view of Fire Rock Geyser. It and Animal Kingdom Lodge are generally the least expensive of the Disney Deluxe Resorts.

The Wilderness Lodge has two Table Service restaurants: Artist Point, a Signature Dining experience, and the Whispering Canyon Cafe. The Whispering Canyon Cafe is a great family restaurant; you will be served by Cast Members doing their best to stay in character and make you laugh. Be sure to ask for ketchup if you go! The Wilderness Lodge also offers the Territory Lounge and  Trout Pass Pool Bar.

There is boat service to the Magic Kingdom. It runs very often and is a nice and relaxing way to get to the theme park. There is also another boat that sails between the Contemporary Resort, Fort Wilderness, and the Wilderness Lodge. That makes it very easy to enjoy things at Fort Wilderness such as the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review and Trail's End buffet, one of the best bargains on property in my opinion.

However, if you are not planning on staying at your resort that much (e.g. you just plan to sleep and shower there) then you might be just as happy in a Disney Moderate resort. My favorite is Port Orleans Riverside. I love the theming of the rustic Alligator Bayou section. The pool is also nicely theme and it has a long water slide; it's actually longer than the Wilderness Lodge's slide. It has a Table Service restaurant open for dinner and there are carriage rides at night. It offers a nice boat ride to Downtown Disney.

    Good luck with your decision!
