We are planning our first trip to WDW in July but we are not staying at a WDW resort. Will our family be able to ride the monorail or is this reserved for resort guests only?

Absolutely!!  Walt Disney World Transportation system is open to all guests of the parks and various resorts.  When we stay off site we park at the TTC and take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.  My boys love to try to ride in the very front car of the monorail. The buses, boats and monorails are available to all guests.  No worries!!  I hope you have a fabulous visit to Walt Disney World.
