I am planning our first trip to Florida, from Scotland, with our 8 year old daughter in December this year. We would spend 17th - 23rd December touring the parks. Is this a crazy time to go? And is it warm enough to visit the water parks? Thanks.

Hi Fiona and welcome to the Mom's Panel!

I am so excited that you will be visiting Walt Disney World not only for the first time but also at what I think of as the most magical time of year.

The Parks and Resorts are decorated beautifully for the holiday season and there are many special events which will be taking place.

At Magic Kingdom Cinderella's Castle is covered with thousands of twinkling lights and looks simply breathtaking!

To answer your question, generally speaking the week between Christmas and New Years Day is the busiest week of the whole year. As you are planning on visiting the Parks the week prior to this, I am confident that you should be able to experience a lot of what there is on offer before the crowds really start to build up.

My family & I actually visited Walt Disney World from 23 December 2010 - 4 January 2011 and whilst it was a lot busier than other times of year, we did manage to see and do everything that we set out to.

The key is to plan, plan and plan some more! I absolutely love planning our trips and find it to be almost as exciting as the holiday itself.

Average weather forecasts for Florida in December suggest a high of 73 degrees and low of 51 degrees. This past Christmas, it was not really warm enough to visit the Water Parks but unfortunately none of us are able to guess what the weather will be like during your visit.
Please note that either Disney's Blizzard Beach or Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks will be closed during your stay for annual refurbishment.

I hope that this has helped and provided you with a starting point for your plans. Please come back and ask me any more questions that you may have and have a fantastic time!
