We are planning our first trip to Disney. I have a 3 yr & 1 yr old. I am debating going either by myself with my 3 yr old, or the two of us joining an 8 yr old and his mom. Suggestions on what might make the first trip more magical for the two of us?

Your first trip to Walt Disney World is such a memorable event.

I have a suggestion for making memories alone with your children while having the help of a friend along.

Perhaps you could travel with the other mom and her 8 year old but plan times to go touring on your own. You could meet up at specific attractions and/or meals. It might be nice to have time together at the hotel pool as well. Since the friend’s child is older, there will be opportunities where they can go off to do attractions that only the 8-year old will enjoy. During this time, you can have some special alone time with your kids riding Dumbo, for example.

I would work out a game plan prior to arriving Orlando. For instance, if you want time alone in Fantasyland with your kids, have the friends head to Tomorrowland first and then meet up at lunch time.

There are play areas that your children can enjoy while the 8-year old goes on a ride. By Splash Mountain, there is a play area or you could take the kids on a round-trip train ride while waiting for the older child to exit the ride.

You may also find times when you want to take your 3-year old on a ride, but not your 1-year old. Your friend may be willing to watch the non-rider while you take the rest of the kids on the rides or vice versa. I think having your friend along can work to both of your advantage as long as you plan ahead for alone time as well.

    Have a magical trip!
