Hi, I am planning my very first trip to Disney World for my 50th birthday, so excited!!! Should I make a park reservation on my arrival day or visit Disney Springs, etc.? Thank you

    Hi Sherelle,

How exciting to be celebrating your very special 50th birthday at the Most Magical Place on Earth next year!  Did you know that next year Walt Disney World will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary?  Looks like you are a Birthday Twin with Walt Disney World!

Now to answer your question about whether to plan for visiting a Disney Theme Park on your day of arrival ~ I would say it depends on how long it will take you to travel from your home to the Walt Disney World Resort.  I see you are from the Golden state of California, so if you are flying from your home state then your travel to the Walt Disney World Resort could be quite lengthy.  I don't know about you, but if I have a flight longer than a  couple of hours or if I change planes, then I can become a little travel weary.  When you also consider the additional time involved with pre-flight check in, your deplaning time, and transportation aboard Disney's Magical Express you could already be looking at an 8+ hour day just for travel.  In cases like this, I personally prefer to keep my arrival day activities less structured so that I am free to go where the moment (and my energy) takes me.  Personally, most often I do not visit a theme park the first day I arrive since my own travel is usually about 8 hours and I prefer starting out my vacation well rested.

Since I also recently celebrated my 50th birthday at Walt Disney World, I have a couple of tips for you.  The first is to be sure and stop by Guest Services in any theme park and pick up a complimentary "Birthday Button" and wear it every day.  Be prepared to have birthday greetings follow you around wherever you go!  If you are feeling extra special, I also recommend purchasing a special Ear Hat or Ear Headband to wear in proclamation of your special celebration.  I have several from that page I just linked to you as well as a few that I purchased on Etsy.  Another recommendation is to purchase Memory Maker and make a point to stop by every Disney PhotoPass opportunity that you can.

Since you have about a year to plan your vacation, I recommend keeping an eye on Walt Disney World Experience Updates for the latest procedures at Walt Disney World Resort.  It's possible that many of the extra special add-ons from the Enchanting Extras Collection will have resumed by then so you might check back later if you are interested in treating yourself to any of those.

I hope you have the most Magical Golden Birthday!  As you continue with your vacation plans, be sure to come back and visit us here again with any of your vacation planning questions.
