Hi Sarah: I'm happy to share my opinion on what works for my family, which includes two boys, ages 8 and 7. Start with the assumption that it's next to impossible to "complete" Disney World in just one trip, even if you had two weeks of vacation. This is especially true when traveling with younger children. There are so many different rides, shows, attractions, and experiences to take in. For my family, my ideal vacation would be six Park days, with two days each dedicated to Magic Kingdom and Epcot and one day each dedicated to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. I would also try to dedicate another day to enjoy Downtown Disney and have a spare day to lounge around the pool. For various reasons, we are not always able to dedicate that much time at Disney World on our vacations, and we've enjoyed several three or four day visits to Disney World.
If you can dedicate four and a half days to the parks, you are in great shape. You can dedicate a day to visit each park with a half day to return to Magic Kingdom for a second visit. I recommend visiting Magic Kingdom with your "extra" half day because the park is very large and the half day will give you more time to explore rides and attractions that you may have missed or a chance to enjoy a favorite experience again. My best advice is to plan ahead without putting too much pressure on yourself and enjoy those four and a half days.
Visit Walt Disney World Resort to explore the magic.
