Hello! We are planning our first family WDW vacation this May, 2014. Our daughter is 7 and son is 4. What is the best kid friendly resort to stay at and why? Also, for a family of 4, do you recommend including the deluxe meal plan?

    Hi Jim:

I would check out the Yacht or Beach Club Resorts, which share the Stormalong Bay pool, considered by many to be the best pool on property featuring a major water slide, several sections, and a lazy river.  Not only are these Resorts centrally located near that entertainment and restaurants of the Boardwalk area, but they are a quick walk away from Epcot, and long walk or short boat ride away from Hollywood Studios.  I also recommend Animal Kingdom Lodge, especially if you reserve a savanna-view room where your family can watch the animals walk by right outside your window.  The pools are great at Animal Kingdom Lodge. AKL Jambo House is home to the 11,000 square foot Uzima pool. The pool boasts a 67-foot slide. There is also Pumbaa's Fun and Games Arcade. AKL Kidani Village is home to the wonderful Samawati Springs pool.   My boys have also enjoyed Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge for their themeing.  If you are looking at a Value Resort, Pop Century has great themeing which your children old may appreciate.

For my family, the deluxe meal plan is too much food, and I feel restricts our choices too much.  But other families love the meal plans.  I would plan out some sample menus on Disney World's restaurant pages to see if you think the deluxe meal plan is right for your family.

    Enjoy your vacation.
