We are planning our first ever Christmas trip. We want to spend the holidays in WDW. I just want to know what the weather is like during December / January? Will it be too cold to swim and what type of clothing should we bring for us and our children?

    Hi Patricia:

The weather in Orlando in late December and early January usually hovers around 70 degrees fahrenheit or higher. However, during certain cold snaps, the weather can really dip low, to the 40's or even lower. I was at Disney World two years ago during the first week of January when it was unseasonably cold. However, when I was at Disney World three years ago in early January, the weather was in the normal 70s and low 80s. So it's always a good idea to dress in layers in case the weather changes unexpectedly.  Tee shirts and shorts are likely fine in the day, but long sleeves and long pants may be needed at night.

The good news is that Disney's Resort and Waterpark pools are heated all year long.  So to a New Yorker, it's usually warm enough to swim. To a southerner, however, swimming may be a different story.  The answer will depend on if the weather is average to warm or unseasonably cold.  I would bring bathing suits and be prepared to swim.  A positive outlook always helps.

    Enjoy your vacation.
