We are planning our first DW trip for next Summer with DS 7 and DS 12. We are driving from Birmingham, AL and will be arriving about 1:00 pm, which is before check in. We will be staying at WLR. What would you suggest doing until check-in time? Thanks

Hi Amy! By all means drive directly to the Wilderness Lodge resort and check-in when you arrive no matter what the time is. Although the rooms are not guaranteed to be ready until 3:00pm, many times you can get lucky and find that your room is indeed ready to be occupied.  If the room is not ready you can store your luggage with the bell staff.  They will call your cell phone to let you know as soon as the room is prepared and since you will already have your room keys you will be given the room number and can go directly to it at that time.

During your wait you can explore this wonderful resort to get to know where the dining and recreation facilities are or you can catch a boat launch and head to the Contemporary resort or even Fort Wilderness to explore those locations.  If you head to the Contemporary you can then hop on the monorail and visit the Polynesian and Grand Floridian resorts easily.  If you choose to use a park ticket for that day I suggest you head to the Magic Kingdom which is the closest to your resort.  You can reach that park via a boat.  It sounds like you might only have an hour or two so I suggest resort hopping versus a park visit for this time.
