We are planning our first disney vacation with our 4 and 7 year old boys August 18th-26th. We are staying at the All Star Sports Resort. What park order do you recommend and what would be your suggested must sees at each? Also, which character dining?

    Hi Missy,

You're first Disney vacation is certainly exciting, but it can often be overwhelming when you don't know what to expect.  I'm not sure if I can answer EVERY question for you in one message, but hopefully I can get you started.  Feel free to ask some follow up questions to add more detail to your trip.

Do you have regular base tickets, or did you add on the Park Hopper option?  I'm going to assume you have regular tickets.  In which case, I would tend to avoid going to parks with Extra Magic Hours.  I'm also showing you my top 3 attractions at each park for families with children your age.  I  left your arrival/departure dates free, because I'm not sure how much time you'll have during those days.
    • August 18 -
    • August 19 - Hollywood Studios: Toy Story Midway Mania, Lights, Motors, Action!, Star Tours
    • August 20 - Epcot: Turtle Talk with Crush, Test Track, Soarin'
    • August 21 - Magic Kingdom: Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Wishes
    • August 22- Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Legend of the Lion King
    • August 23- Hollywood Studios
    • August 24 - Epcot or Animal Kingdom
    • August 25 - Magic Kingdom
    • August 26

Some of my "must sees" have height requirements. If your 4 year old is at least 40 inches, he will be able to ride most attractions.  It's also very important to take a break in the middle of the day.  Go back to your resort to get out of the heat, swim, and REST.

As far as character dining, our family really likes Tusker House at Animal Kingdom, Garden Grill in Epcot, and Crystal Palace (Winnie the Pooh) at Magic Kingdom.  Other fun dining experiences include: T-Rex, Whispering Canyon Cafe and 'Ohana.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
