I am planning my first Disney vacation for September 23-30, 2012. I have a 3 year old daughter and I imagine that we will be spending lots of time at Magic Kingdom. As far as moderate hotels, where to you suggest to stay in that vicinity?

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for writing!  First trips to Walt Disney World are extra magical in my opinion!  How exciting that yours is in the works!  The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Campground are the closest resort to Magic Kingdom in the moderate category.  In fact, the park is a short boat ride away from the Fort.  The Cabins are a wonderful option for a family looking for some extra space, as each has a fully-equipped kitchen, separate bedroom and living room area and a private porch with a grill.  Transportation from all of the other Moderate Resorts is via bus.  My boys and I have stayed at all of them, and find transportation to and from Magic Kingdom to be relatively consistent among all of them. Buses run every 15-20 minutes throughout the day.  If you are not planning on staying at the cabins, I would base your decision on what amenities, theming, etc. you are interested in.  We love the pool area at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, for example and often pick this as our choice to call "home" while on vacation.  All of the moderates have great, well-themed pools, in-room mini-refrigerators, wonderful table-service restaurants and food-courts.

    Happy planning!
