We are planning our first Disney trip this Feb. for our boys (4&6). I'm finding it difficult to choose a hotel. I think I've narrowed our choice to the Art of Animation suites or Fort Wilderness Cabins. Will the cabins be a true Disney experience? Pro/

    Nova:

Although I am a big fan of Fort Wilderness, the cabin experience is vastly different from the well-themed palate of the Art of Animation Resort. Here are some of the highlights to consider:

    • Art of Animation: If you're looking for over-the-top theming right down to the shower curtain, this is your pick. Murals on the outside of the buildings as well as water features at the pool give you a sense of submersion. With the opportunity to pick the theme that suits your children best, the cartoonish rooms appeal to youngsters. Suites give you two bathrooms versus just one in a fort cabin and its pool offers more than the fort's for kids but it lacks dining experiences and does not offer the full stable of resort activities that you'll find at Fort Wilderness.
    • Fort Wilderness: The subtle nod to Disney's rustic side lives here. Staying in a cabin gives your boys plenty of room to run outside and the full kitchen is a step up from the microwave and mini-fridge at AOA. Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Singalong is just one of the activities at the resort that also has a marina with a ferry directly to the Magic Kingdom. With Trail's End, the Hoop Dee Doo Revue and Mickey's Backyard BBQ all housed at this resort, there's much you can enjoy outside of the parks.

The decision comes down to how much time you see yourself spending at your resort and whether your children--and you--could benefit from the relaxed atmosphere of the fort versus the continuation of the theme park animation at AOA. Keep in mind that your children will only be young for so long to enjoy AOA and you can enjoy the fort later. But know that regardless of your decision, you'll be pleased with either.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
