Planning our first Disney cruise - where do I start? I've been on Royal and a ton and love it but would like to try out Disney. We live in Miami but are willing to travel to Orlando or Tampa for it.

Ahoy, Joel! Welcome to planDisney and get ready to set sail for adventure. I’m so excited to hear that you are looking to book your first sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line and am happy to help you start the planning process.

Disney Cruise Line has two different departure ports located in Florida: Port Canaveral near Orlando and Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Unlike some departure ports that only operate seasonally, Disney Cruise Line uses both Florida ports year-round, so you can pick whatever timeframe best meets your needs. The Summer 2027 itineraries were just released earlier this month and the general booking window for those dates opens on Monday, February 23, 2026. That means that booking will be available for all Disney Cruise Line sailings between now and September 2027 starting this week.

You will find that all of the itineraries from both Florida departure ports are either Bahamian or Eastern, Western, or Southern Caribbean cruises, except for the occasional Transatlantic repositioning cruise. As of right now, there are over 500 Disney cruises scheduled to depart from Florida, so I recommend first deciding which departure port would be best for you and then narrowing down your options further based on your desired cruise length. There are currently 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-Night Bahamian Cruises and 4-, 5-, 7-, and 10-Night Caribbean Cruises available, so you can enjoy a long weekend getaway or an extended vacation experience depending on your personal preference. The good news is that all of the available Bahamian and Caribbean Cruises from Florida include a stop at Disney Castaway Cay, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, or both, so you are guaranteed to enjoy island time on at least one of Disney’s private beaches during your sailing no matter which option you choose.

To find your perfect sailing, you can start by going to the main Disney Cruise Line website and selecting the “Plan a Cruise” tab at the top of the page. You can then narrow down your choices by using the white boxes labeled “Leaving,” “Sailing to,” and “Departing from” to specify your desired cruise details, including your preferred months of travel, destination, and exact departure port. If you want to narrow down the options even further, you can also click where it says “More Filters” and scroll down to the second question that asks “How many nights?” to eliminate either the longer or shorter cruises from your results list.

Disney Cruise Line truly is where magic meets the sea and offers unique experiences that you simply cannot find anywhere else. Whether you are participating in character meet-and-greets, enjoying the incredible lineup of Broadway-caliber stage productions inspired by Disney classics, watching one of the newest movie releases, or seeing the Disney Cruise Line exclusive fireworks at sea light up the night sky for the first time, it will be unlike any cruise that you have ever taken before. If you have any other questions while planning your first sailing aboard the Disney fleet, we are always here and ready to help at planDisney. Happy sailing!
