We are planning a family Jan 2028 Disney Trip. We are renting a house, but have a question regarding are the magic bands plus worth it for our family to get? What are the benefits when not staying at the onsite hotels.

Hi Mary and welcome back to planDisney! I see that your last visit was before MagicBand+ made its debut, so let’s talk about all its great features for non-Resort hotel guests to help you decide if they are right for you and your family!

Similar to the original MagicBand, MagicBand+ replaces physical admission media for entrance to the theme parks at Walt Disney World. You’ll find many different MagicBand+ styles themed to popular Disney characters, theme parks, and attractions. For Resort hotel guests, MagicBand+ can also be used for food and merchandise purchases. But with the MagicBand+, there’s more fun and benefits for those not staying on property:

    • Nighttime spectaculars. MagicBand+ can interact with the various nighttime spectaculars at Walt Disney World, including Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom, Luminous The Symphony of Us at EPCOT, and Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Your MagicBand+ will light up and vibrate in sync with these shows.
    • Disney Fab 50 Character Collection. A remnant from Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration that luckily still remains at Walt Disney World is the collection of gold statues located across all 4 theme parks (see the complete list of characters here). Wave your MagicBand+ in a circle in front of one of these statues for a surprise!
    • Rides and attractions. There are also some select rides and attractions that interact with your MagicBand+ at all 4 theme parks. Some of my favorites include Avatar Flight of Passage and Tron Lightcycle Run.
    • Compatibility with Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line. Finally, if you plan on visiting Disneyland or boarding a Disney Cruise (on select sailings), you can use your same MagicBand+ at those locations as well!

Mary, I hope this information is helpful for you as you plan for your future family trip. If you have any additional questions about your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World, please feel free to contact me and my fellow panelists here at planDisney!

    Your pal,
