I am planning on doing a Capture Your Moments session at Magic Kingdom for my son's 1st birthday. Am I allowed to bring a smash cake or can Disney provide one? Also, do you suggest 1 session or 2 sessions?

Hey there, hi there, ho there, Breanna! You're as welcome as can be here at planDisney! Thanks a bunch for trusting us with your vacation planning question.

I think that planning a smash the cake session for your son's very first birthday is the absolute cutest thing in the world! I'm very happy to report that you're more than welcome to bring your own cake into Magic Kingdom Park if that's what you want, but you could also get something inside the theme park.

For example, you could try a very Disney twist on the smash the cake trend by purchasing one of the Main Street Confectionery treats and having your son smash that instead! You can get all kinds of pastries, cupcakes, and many other yummy snacks at the Confectionery. Or if you know that you definitely want a cake, you can purchase one from Amorette's Patisserie at Disney Springs and then take it straight to Magic Kingdom! The cakes here are delicious, and they are also gorgeous. You could get one of their classic Disney character dome cakes for the occasion! They make great props for in-park pictures.

Now, keep in mind that Capture Your Moment sessions consist of 20 minutes of dedicated time with a Disney PhotoPass photographer. In those 20 minutes, the amazing Cast Member will be completely dedicated to getting your son's best poses and cutest moments! When we did my cousin's smash the cake session a couple of years ago, he did most of the smashing in two to three minutes. The rest of the time he was just eager to go back to his mom's arms! To be completely fair, I think that 40 minutes might be way too much time in this case, unless you want to dedicate the first session to taking family and outfit pictures before all the mess that will follow during the second session. In the end, it's completely up to you. After all, you know your son best!

I hope you have an absolutely enchanting time at the Walt Disney World Resort this spring, Breanna. If you have any other questions for us, you know where to find us! We're always available and more than happy to help here at planDisney. Oh, and happy first birthday to that cutie pie of yours!

    Warm hugs,
