Hi we are planning a Disneyland trip in December and wondering if going on a weekday (instead of weekend) makes a very big difference in crowds? This would be for early December

    Hiya Leonard!

Welcome to planDisney and I'm really excited to hear that you're planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort towards the end of this year! It's going to be a beautiful time of year to visit as all the Holiday decorations will be out and everything just feels so festive! The Cast Members work so hard to make this time of year special for their Guests and planning is a year-round endeavor! I'd say that they do a pretty phenomenal job each year.

Weekdays have traditionally been lighter in terms of crowds, but crowd levels have been a little difficult to predict these past couple of years. I will say that the Holiday Season does tend to draw more people visiting the Parks and enjoying the decorations and Holiday offerings. In my personal opinion, I think that the best times to visit to avoid heavier crowds would be weekday mornings (especially Tuesday through Thursday). You'll be able to experience an incredible amount just in the first few hours that the Parks are open, especially if you make Rope Drop first thing in the morning.

Another strategy for avoiding crowds would be to consider adding the Genie+ feature to your ticket. This will allow you to use the Lightning Lane entrances for certain attractions and will save you a lot of time from waiting in the standby queues. If you have a Park Hopper ticket, you'll also have the freedom of hopping back and forth between the two Parks in order to better utilize your time.

During your visit, be sure to check out the Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure. I love picking up a Sip and Savor Pass so I can sample many of the delicious multicultural Holiday foods they serve at the Festive Foods Marketplace!  Last year, one of the most surprising treats for me was the Mickey Gingerbread Cookie, so don't pass on it if you see one!

Leonard, I hope that was helpful for you as you plan your trip. If you have any further questions, please write back to us again anytime because you're always welcome at planDisney! Until next time!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
