I am planning a disney vacation for christmas 2012 and would like some guidance in budgetting for the trip. I would like to start now so that the trip is paid for completely by the time we leave. There could be as many as 12 in our group or as few as 5.

Hi Leanne - I definitely recommend budgeting for a big trip -and if you start now you should be in great shape.

It may be difficult to figure out how much you'll need if you don't know how many you'll be paying for, but it's probably best to over rather than under-estimate.  Once you know how large your party is, you should figure out where you'll want to stay.  Since Disney offers value, moderate, and deluxe resorts, you'll likely find one that works for you.

Using the online reservation system, price out a few of the hotel options along with airfare, tickets, and the dining plan (if you are thinking of using that).  Either average out the prices or choose the more expensive of the options and use that figure to budget.

I generally recommend that you figure out how many months or weeks you have before you leave, and divide the total cost by that number to determine how much you need to save per month/week.

Once you know how many are going, make your reservations early enough so you are guaranteed your preferences.  If Disney offers a special promotion for your dates after you book, you can always call to see if you can have the promotion added to your reservation.

I hope that helps!  Have a great vacation!
