Planning a Disney trip for my son’s 7th birthday. I’m a little lost. I’d like to get the most out of the experience. We were planning on driving, but it is a 12 hour drive. I need help with buying tickets or perhaps a whole package?

Hey there, Hi there, Nicole! Welcome to planDisney, and thanks for stopping by the panel with your question!

It sounds like you know how to throw the perfect birthday party! A trip to Walt Disney World is a pretty awesome gift! The hardest part will be figuring out how you will top this next year! But … you could always make the Disney Birthday trip an annual experience! I want to start by easing your mind because you’re going to have a fantastic time and an amazing experience no matter what. After all, it is Walt Disney World!

My family also enjoys loading up the truck and hitting the road to Central Florida. Our drive is about 10 hours, but with a destination like Mickey’s House, you’ll be there before you know it! We have a large family with young kids, so driving gives us more control over our vacation which we enjoy. Purchasing your Theme Park Tickets is pretty straightforward and can be completed online or through the My Disney Experience mobile app. However, there are a few decision points that are needed before you reach that point. You and your family will need to decide how many days you would like to visit the Theme Parks. I always suggest that Guests consider purchasing at least 4-day standard Theme Park Tickets. This way you get to visit each Theme Park once and really experience all that they have to offer. You can always choose to add the Park Hopper option to your tickets, but in my opinion, Park Hopping can add unnecessary pressure to Disney Vacation planning when you’re newer to navigating the Theme Parks.

The next option you mentioned is a Disney Vacation Package. When booking your Disney experience, a Vacation Package is created when Theme Park Tickets and a Disney Resorts Collection hotel stay are booked together. Staying in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel comes with onsite perks such as an extended dining reservation window and early theme park entry time. Additionally, when a Disney Vacation Package is booked, only a $200 deposit (amount subject to change) is required, and the remaining balance is due 30 days before your arrival date. That gives you as much time as you’d like to make payments on your entire trip! I suggest reviewing the list of available resort hotels and determining which one best fits your budget and needs. I like to suggest Disney’s Pop Century Resort. My kids love the theming at Pop, and I love the price point and multiple transportation options!

I hope this helps, Nicole! If you have more questions while planning your Disney Vacation, stop back by and let me know
