We are planning a Disney trip in August. We started looking at height requirements and realized that my grandson is too short to ride a lot of the rides. He's 5 years old and is only 38 inches tall. Could he ride them if his mom rode the ride with him?

    Hi Joany,

Welcome to planDisney! I am happy to know you all are thinking of planning a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort!

Each Guest must meet the minimum height requirements for attractions, so your grandson would need to meet the height requirements for the ride. Although he would be too short to ride some attractions, there are still a lot that he can experience! If you have not done so already, review the Attractions List and filter by theme park (All Parks and Resorts) to see which attractions he can ride at each park.

When we took our girls on their first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort, they were 5-years old and, thankfully, were both at least 40 inches tall. One of them just barely made it, though and I distinctly remember when we approached Soarin' Around the World and a Cast Member called her over to be measured. Once he told her she made it, she jumped up in the air and smiled the biggest smile. I remember measuring her about eight months before the trip, however and she was 39 inches. So, she grew by the time we traveled.

So, you can keep your plans to go in August and enjoy the attractions he can ride. Magic Kingdom has so many rides for little ones! Or you could select different dates and hope he grows a few inches. My advice is always to enjoy life while you can. He is at such a perfect age to go. Remember that there are also characters to see and entertainment to experience. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to see A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King. It was a stunning show!

If you do decide to go in August, there is so much to plan! Start searching for vacation package pricing and make a reservation! Once booked, you need to link that vacation package in your My Disney Experience account. Also check for advanced dining reservations. Since your dining reservation window would open 60-days prior to your stay, it's best to have your vacation package booked in enough time for you to make those dining reservations right at the 60-day mark. This is especially important for restaurants with character experiences. Topolino's Terrace - Flavors of the Rivera is our favorite character dining experience!

Joany, book that vacation package and then make Disney Park Pass system reservations. We are so excited to welcome you to a world of magic!

    Magic and memories,
    Donyell
