We are planning on going to the Disney theme parks the week of April 1-5 2013. It will be a group of 5 of us. We are celebrating my mother's and sons birthday which are the following week after our vacation. Is there any special event that the park offers?

    Hi Berenice,

How exciting for you to celebrate your mother's and son's birthdays at Walt Disney World!

There are many ways to make your vacation special for a birthday celebration. Although the birthdays you are celebrating are not until the next week, I suggest picking a different special day for your mother and your son and designating it their birthday during your vacation. Be sure to get a birthday button. These buttons are available at no cost at Guest Relations at each of the parks. The rest of your group can get "I'm celebrating" buttons to show that you are celebrating the birthdays as well! Although you should not expect any special treatment from the buttons, it will be really fun to walk around the parks and hear cast members and other guests wish your son and mother a happy birthday. Sometimes they might get a little extra treat when wearing the button. I will never forget the look of happiness on my daughter's face when our server at The Plaza Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom brought her a special birthday cupcake on her seventh birthday. You should not expect these surprises, and then they are even more magical if they do occur! Also be sure to indicate when you are making dining reservations at Walt Disney World that you are celebrating a birthday. Again don't expect any surprises, but they may happen!

If you are interested in having a special cake created for your mother or son (or maybe one for them together!) you can call the Disney Cake Hotline at 407-827-2253. They will work with you to create a special cake for your family. We had one in the shape of Minnie Mouse's head delivered to our resort room for our daughter's seventh birthday. It was adorable and delicious! For more information on ordering a cake at Walt Disney World, visit disneyfoodblog.com and search "cake."

Have a wonderful vacation, Berenice, and happy birthday to your mother and son! Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
