Hi Susan! It sounds like you’re getting ready for some delicious
Disney Dining! I have a few older sons who can occasionally be picky eaters (depending upon which restaurant we are dining). We’ve been able to navigate our way through many Disney Dining locations without too many issues.
First, a little kindness goes a long way when working with the Cast Members at Disney Dining! We have found that they always want to accommodate our dining requests. And, if they are able to make some exceptions they will do so. There are usually certain accommodations they are allowed to make with Guests with special requests.
There is one strategy that we have found works best. Our older sons have typically been able to order items from the children’s menu, but they are served a larger portion of the children’s menu items with a higher price than the children’s menu pricing, but not as much as some of the main entrees. We’ve always been happy with this compromise. Our sons get the food they want to enjoy in a larger portion, while my wife and I can still enjoy dining at the restaurant and ordering the items we wish to enjoy!
I wouldn't necessarily enter every dining establishment assuming an exception will be made. As I mentioned, if the Cast Member serving your table is allowed to accommodate your request, they will certainly do so.
Susan, if you plan on enjoying dining reservations (or even quick service meals) during your vacation, you might want to check out the
Disney Dining Plan options that are available! We find we enjoy our vacation a bit more knowing that many meals, snacks, and beverages are already paid for! The refillable resort mugs that come with the Disney Dining Plan are also a huge hit with our sons! The boys fill those things non-stop!
