Planning for Dec '15 w/ DH and DS (4 yrs). Which resort is more kid-friendly, AKL or Boardwalk (villas)? My family loves animals but the prox. to Epcot (my fav!) is enticing at Boardwalk. Will pools be open and heated, if so which is best for kids? TIA!

    Hi Brianna,

Wow, what a great question! You are choosing between two great resorts. I have stayed at each. They are both great, and there are benefits and drawbacks to each. Let me tell you my experiences with each to hopefully help you to make a decision.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is amazing. The decor is beautiful, and the ability to see exotic animals outside of nearly every window is unique and wonderful. There are activities offered often about culture and animals, and fabulous restaurants with exotic fare. If your son is intrigued by exotic animals, this might be the resort to choose. The drawback at this resort is that it is geographically a bit removed from most of Walt Disney World. Disney transportation to all locations from here is by bus, and only Disney's Animal Kingdom is truly close.

Disney's BoardWalk Villas is my home resort with Disney Vacation Club. I love the hustle and bustle of the Crescent Lake area. You can not only walk or take a boat to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, but to many other resorts as well - Disney's Beach and Yacht Club Resorts, and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. This opens up many opportunities for dining and entertainment.

At all of the Walt Disney World resorts, the pools are heated and open year-round. At Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Uzima Pool features a zero-depth entry and waterslide. At Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Luna Park Pool also has a waterslide and has adorable elephant statues that spit water around the pool.

Hopefully these thoughts will be helpful for you in making your decision, Brianna. Have a great time planning your vacation, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
