Planning our 1st DCL and 1st Disneyworld trip in Jan, 2012. Is 7-8 days at DW long enough to catch the main attractions? Park hopper vs 1 park/day? Which Disney hotel to stay with family of 5 (ages 4, 9,15)? Am leaning toward Poly d/t transportation ease.

    Ahoy there Ronaviv!

I'm so excited about your upcoming Disney Cruise!  I just disembarked from the Disney Dream last week and it was a magical experience from beginning to end.  Be sure to sign your kids up for the Midship Detective Agency after boarding the ship.  My eleven-year-old loved this interactive ship-wide game.  It's a great way to see many parts of the ship early in your cruise.

I think seven-eight days would be adequate to explore the Disney parks after your cruise.  Although you can never have enough time to see everything at Walt Disney World, you can cover quite a bit of ground in that amount of time.  While I prefer park-hopper tickets, single day admission tickets would probably work just fine for you especially if you are not regular visitors to the parks.

I like your choice of Disney's Polynesian Resort for the land portion of your upcoming trip.  You can't beat staying at one of the monorail resorts when considering convenient transportation options and gorgeous views of the Magic Kingdom especially during the fireworks.  I stayed at the Polynesian in January and was awestruck by how large the rooms were.  Your family of five should be quite comfortable there.

Wishing you a magical land and sea vacation with Disney!
