We are planning a 9 day trip at the end of April the adults in our party have Deluxe Dining. I was told by a Disney executive that we will pay for the 2 yearold at buffets if she eats off her own plate ~ do you recommend buying her a dining plan?

We did a lot of these types of meals when our son was 2! It was a great savings.

No, the dining plan does not need to be purchased for your 2-year old. In fact, the Disney Dining Plan states “The Disney Dining Plan is unavailable for Guests under the age of 3, but they may share from an adult plate at no charge or purchase a meal from the menu.”

We visited WDW at least twice when our son was 2 and we simply helped him with his own plate at the buffet meals. He never ate off of our plates at the buffet meals. Any character meals, pre-plated meals or family style meals are indeed free for children under 3. He was always given his own plate at pre-plated and family style character meals.

You will need to purchase a meal for your daughter at other table service locations when she is not eating from your plate. At any restaurant where you will be ordering your meal from a menu such as at the ‘50s Prime Time Café, you will be able to order her a meal or she will share from your plate. Even if she is sharing chicken fingers, for example, with you - ask your server for her own plate and then give her some of your meal. We’ve found most servers to be very accommodating.

I hope this helps to clarify the under 3 meals for you. Just remember:

Fixed price meals offer kids under 3 their own plate and they are free.
Menu ordered meals offer kids the option to pay for their own meal or share your meal with you.

    Enjoy your April vacation!!
