I am planning our childrens first trip to Disney and was wondering, do you need the park hopper or waterpark & more passes to visit Downtown Disney?

You do not need a park hopper  to visit Downtown Disney.  Park hoppers only apply to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

Downtown Disney is a fun place to stroll around while shopping and dining.

    Downtown Disney comprises 3 sections:
    MarketPlace
    West Side
    Pleasure Island

You can walk around these areas without admission. There are night and comedy clubs at Pleasure Island that require admission to enter and that’s where the Water Park Fun and More option can come in handy.  DisneyQuest, with indoor interactive games, is also included in this additional Magic Your Way ticket option. Also, you can always “pay as you go”.

For guests that are dining, shopping, enjoying the Lego Imagination Center and other fun Downtown Disney activities, admission is not needed. If you wish to see some entertainment such as Cirque du Soleil - La Nouba , it will require separate admission.
