Hi John!
A first birthday is very special and Walt Disney World is the perfect place to celebrate it! We took my son to Disney for his first birthday and we will be taking my daughter for her first birthday this year. We made special 1st birthday t-shirts for all of us to wear and we'll be doing that again this year.
The first thing I did was book a character dinner for him with Mickey Mouse and the gang. I chose
Garden Grill at Epcot because we had never been before and we wanted to see the classic characters. If you haven't done character dining before, I highly suggest
Chef Mickey's.
How about a special cake for him? We pre-ordered a Mickey Mouse cake that we considered his "smash cake" and let him go to town with it. This was the highlight of his birthday and even the guests around us got a kick out of our baby boy with cake EVERYWHERE. (If you do this, make sure you pack a change of clothes and wet wipes for the clean-up) For information on how to order a special cake, visit the Disney Food Blog here: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/disney-world-cakes-faq/
Next I took him to Harmony Barber Shop to get his first haircut. They give the first timers a certificate and special Mickey ears that say 1st Haircut on the back. Not his first haircut? You can still take him in there to get a super cool hair do, like colored spikes with some pixie dust on top. To make reservations at the Harmony Barber Shop and for dining, call (407) WDW-DINE.
Stop by any guest services and pick up a complimentary Happy Birthday button for him to wear proudly around the parks.
I hope you have a FABULOUS first birthday for your baby boy!
Leslie
