I am planning to bring my mother to DisneyWorld in September to celebrate her 80th birthday. I need suggestions for activities that she will enjoy and be able to do.She will not sit in a wheelchair or scooter.I'm looking forward to a memorable trip.

Hi Lynn!  This past December I took my mother to Disney World to celebrate the holidays and she is 87 years old! She hasn't stopped talking about the trip yet so I booked her for a Disney cruise this June up through Canada! Disney is certainly not just for children.

The first thing to remember is to make sure she does not overdo in the heat. September will still be hot and humid. Have plenty of water and know where the bathrooms are located in each park.  Try to encourage her to rent a wheelchair to use occasionally when standing is the only other option in lines etc. You can "beg" her to use one so you can use the alternative entrances to some rides.  I did that a lot with my mom so she wouldn't feel like a burden.

When entering an attraction make sure you tell the cast member if you need the loading vehicles to be slowed. They won't just take it for granted when seeing an elderly person.

Consider visiting some of the resorts. My mom loved checking out the resorts to see the different decor and atmosphere. Try to do a lot of table service reservations as it forces everyone to sit and enjoy a meal while resting. All the parks have awesome choices.

Make sure you make as many of the firework shows and parades in the each of the four parks. My mother enjoyed watching those more then actually riding on rides. If you send me dates I can make sure you have the times for all of those. Enjoy and I am sure this will be a magical trip for all!
