We are planning to bring my grandma and rent an ECV. She doesn’t need an accesible room and is fine for short duration mobility. Do we have to book an accesible room if we have an ECV or is there another location to leave/charge it overnight?

    Hi Meredith,

I love that you are going to be visiting Walt Disney World with your grandma!  There is nothing like vacationing with your dearest loved ones at the Most Magical Place on Earth.

You sound like you have made some excellent plans already and kudos to you for planning on renting an ECV for your grandma for your length of stay.  If you rent through a Disney featured provider, the Cast Members at your Disney Resort hotel will work with the provider to manage the ECV drop off and return and you do not need to be present to do this.  What a time saver!

I am happy to let you know that you do not need to make a reservation for an accessible room if your grandma does not need those features.  There are many outlets in every room in which you can charge her ECV overnight.  You might take a look at your room's layout after you arrive to see if some small rearranging would provide the most convenient spot for charging.  As a mom of four kids, I have had my share of strollers and portable cribs to arrange in our rooms and can tell you with a little creativity it is possible to create a nice space for relaxing and also for storage.  Another suggestion I have is to stop by and speak to a Cast Member at the front desk for tips on the best charging spot to maximize your space as they will know all of the room layouts the best.

Meredith, since you are vacationing with your grandma who has mobility issues, I thought you may want to know about all of the Services for Guests with Disabilities that Walt Disney World Resort has to offer.  Even though you may be most interested in the Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities, there may be others that can benefit your grandma so you might want to take a look at the whole list of services.

Have a Magical vacation!  If this is your or your grandma's first visit, be sure to stop by Guest Services and pick up a special "1st Visit" celebration button to wear.  You can pick one up at your Disney Resort hotel's front desk or at any Guest Relations location.

    See Ya Real Soon!
