Planning a birthday celebration for November and a stay at Port Orleans-Riverside. There’s just two of us, so if I request a king bed room, am I more likely to be in Magnolia Bend? I know nothing is guaranteed, but I would love any tips you can share!

    Hi Lindsay,

A very happy birthday and welcome back to planDisney! It’s always such a pleasure to see familiar names return to our site over the years. The fact that you continue to trust us with your vacation planning truly means a lot, and I’m so glad we’ve been able to help make your visits to Walt Disney World Resort that much more special.

Port Orleans Resort – Riverside holds a special place in my heart. It was the very first resort I stayed at when visiting with my parents and brother more than thirty years ago. Back then, it was known as Dixie Landings, but the southern hospitality, charming landscaping, and peaceful Sassagoula River haven’t changed a bit. I think you’re really going to enjoy your stay there.

I did a bit of digging to help with your room request, and here’s what I found. King Bed rooms are sprinkled throughout the resort, but most of the dedicated King Bed only rooms are located in the Magnolia Bend section. That said, there appears to be one exception: Building 15 in the Alligator Bayou appears to have King Bed only accommodations as well. If you're open to a King Bed with an additional pull-down Murphy bed, your odds of landing a room in Alligator Bayou increase quite a bit, since that configuration is more common there.

For requests like this, I usually bypass the Direct-to-Room Service during check-in. That way, I can speak directly with a Cast Member at the front desk. In my experience, if you explain that you're happy to wait a little longer for a specific room type or location, they'll do their best to accommodate you. As you mentioned, nothing is ever guaranteed, but I've found that flexibility and a kind request can go a long way.

Since you’ll be just a relaxing boat ride away from Disney Springs, I highly recommend starting one of your mornings with a stop at Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew. Later in the day, cap off the evening with a fresh cookie (or a box of them) from Summer House on the Lake; it's one of my newest favorites.

If you’d like help planning anything else for your birthday celebration, from dining reservations to quiet corners to relax, just let me know. I’d be more than happy to share more ideas!

Cheers to many more magical years!
    Brent
