I've planned 2 years to bring family for a week to AKR and had reservations for ages. Today 10/21/2020, I get a notice I have been moved ruining plans, Christmas and birthday of a special needs child-It won't work. What can we do?

Hello, Brian and thanks for stopping by planDisney.

Brian, I’m sorry to hear that your vacation plans have been changed. As a self-proclaimed uber-planner, I know that quite a lot of work can go into the “before” stages of planning out a Magical trip and understand your frustrations. I’m glad you’re here so we can chat about your options.

From your question it looks like your stay was booked at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and you have been relocated. Earlier this summer I had a stay booked at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Since that resort was closed without a reopening date (as part of the phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort), my reservation was also moved. When I called in to speak with a Cast Member, I asked what all of my options were in relocation since we had specific plans for only two theme parks. If your travel dates are firm, I would recommend calling into the Disney Resort Hotel Reservations line at (407) 939-1936 and explaining your situation. If you are a Disney Vacation Club Member and booked your reservation using points, you'll want to call into Member Services at (800) 800-9800. While I can't guarantee availability, in my experience the Cast Members have been very sympathetic and eager to help.

If your travel dates are flexible, you ARE able to modify or cancel your trip without penalty. While that would mean Christmas and your child's birthday would be different than planned, it may give you more time to readjust to your new options.

Brian, while a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort is always Magical, I know that sometimes tough decisions need to be made. As a Mom and as an elementary school counselor, I also know that pre-planning for kids with special needs is often crucial and with so many changes, now may not be the best time to visit. Hopefully with this information you'll be able to make the best choice for your family.

If you choose to visit in December, I will be wishing on a star that your trip will be filled with Magical moments. If you choose to push back your vacation, I hope Tinker Bell works her magic and you are able to redesign your vacation to best fit your needs.

Thanks for stopping by planDisney, Brian. I hope you'll come back with any other questions in the future,

    Lauren
