We planned our trip last Aug to come to DW in Jan 16-23 09, and we are so excited, it;s our first visit, and was wondering what the weather is going to be like, not sure what type of clothes to pack, we will be leaving from Frederick, MD from the cold.

January weather is so unpredictable. We've been vacationing at WDW in January for over 15 years. We'll be there during your dates as well!

Packing for a January vacation is a bit more challenging than traveling during the summer months. You'll need layers. For example, you might start off in the morning in pants, sweatshirts and jackets. By afternoon, you may have shed the jackets. And if it's really nice, you might even want to change into shorts and a t-shirt. By evening, you may be back in pants, sweatshirt and jackets.

We watch the long range forecast while packing. I check out accuweather.com as well as a local Orlando TV affiliate every day. And increase or decrease the appropriate items from our luggage. Colder weather means more long sleeves and pants. Warmer weather means more t-shirts.

We  have been in January when we wore mostly shorts. We've also been there at the other extreme when we had to wear jackets, gloves and hats. I always keep a pair of gloves and a hat tucked in a coat pocket.

Not only do we watch the weather reports closely prior to vacation, but we also keep a close tabs while on vacation. You don't want to find yourself at the Magic Kingdom in shorts if it's not expected to warm up that day. Most likely, you'll need mostly pants. Throw in a couple pairs of shorts for those nice warm afternoons!

In January 2008 during your dates, the high temps ranged from 64-75 degrees. And the lows were 38-60. So that shows what a wide range of temps that you could deal with in the span of a week!
