We have planned a surprise trip to WDWfor our kids ages 5 and 11. We would like to just get in the car and drive without telling the kids where we are going. Any suggestions on what "fibs" we could use?

    Hi Hollie!

There are tons of 'fibs' you could tell--we are going to Grandma's, going to see your Aunt and Uncle's house...Chattanooga TN, but (for my kids--it would just throw them for a loop once we arrived--and not in a good way!)  with the length of your drive, they'll eventually figure out that you aren't going where you said they were...especially that smart 11 year old...

Since you've got an older one, you could do a map activity with them--finding clues along the way that will tell more about their destination.  For your sanity, you could give a clue every 100-150 miles and start with really obscure clues, and let them get easier as you get closer....

OR you could say "get in the car kids, we're going to X (X would be your estimated first stop for gas), and then, once you get to X, you could say...well, why don't we go ahead and go to...X (X here would be your stop for lunch)?  Keep moving them further and further until they see those magic signs...then, "Why not!?  Let's go to Walt Disney World?!"

Either way, have a magical vacation!
