We planned a grand gatherings trip for 13 because of the free dining plan, but we are on a very tight budget. We just discovered that parties of 6 or more are automatically charged an 18% tip. We don't want to be cheap, but Is there any way around this?

Hi, Kate!    Gratuities for large parties at table service restaurants are automatically calculated for you.    While I understand your budget, I think you will find that the cast members who will be serving you work extremely hard and will make your meals quite magical.  They certainly earn their tips each and meal!    Some of the cast members at the restaurants have been there for many years and have truly perfected their skill and efficiency to make your dining experience the best it can be.

If you truly feel your server did not earn an 18% tip, please ask to see a manager, as you should receive the service you deserve.

While I have never worked in food service, I can certainly appreciate how hard of a job it is!   Taking orders, filling drinks, serving food (hmmm, sounds like a mom at home - maybe my kids and husband should leave a tip for me!!)

Have  great trip with your family!

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
