    Hi Amanda,
Thanks for joining us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!

I'm a near-native Floridian, having spent most of my life here in Central Florida.  During the summer months, rain is a near-daily occurrence.  I can only think of a few days in recent history when the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks have closed, and those were due to hurricanes.  The theme parks don't close and unfortunately, refunds are not offered for the typical summer rainstorm.  There may be periodic attraction closures due to lightning and water park closures for the same for safety concerns.  However, I can share a few of my favorite tips with you to make the most of your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation, rain or shine!

First, we all carry our own backpacks.  I love the string type that go on and off easily and don't take up much space in luggage or when worn under jackets or ponchos.  We all have reusable rain jackets that are stored in our backpacks (ponchos can work for this as well), along with flip-flops or waterproof sandals.  Shoes with a solid footbed that can't absorb water are best in my opinion.  We also pack a change of clothes (including undergarments) inside a gallon-sized zippered bag and a hand towel. I try to pack clothing that will dry quickly and easily and avoid fabrics like denim that don't dry well and can chafe skin if wet for prolonged periods of time.  When it starts to rain, we take cover and remove our sneakers and socks, store them inside our backpacks, and put on our flip-flops and rain jackets. Umbrellas are optional; we have found that baseball hats work well in the rain because the brims keep water off of our faces.  From there, we get wet and enjoy shorter lines for our favorite attractions.  We use the hand towels to help dry our faces, arms, and legs when we get inside the air conditioning.  When the rain has finished, we can change into dry clothes if necessary, storing our wet clothes inside the plastic bags.

Note that if inclement weather causes the cancellation of one of your FastPass+ selections, you should receive an email and possibly an alert (if activated) from My Disney Experience on your smart phone to let you know of the closure and change.

Amanda, I hope our weather cooperates for you next week. Please know that even if rain is in the forecast, rarely does it rain all day long in our beautiful Sunshine State. Please come back and visit us again with your vacation planning questions.

    Best Wishes,
    Amy S.
