Planing to go to WDW in 09 is the first week of august a good time to go?

    Hi Ryne,

As you can guess, sitting on this panel makes me a bit biased!  I don't think there's any "bad" time to visit Disney.  Instead, I think families should consider a number of factors, including:  budget, the ability to take vacation and children's school and activity schedules, when planning the "perfect time" for them.

I have traveled to Disney in August many times, and here are my thoughts on this month.

    • It's hot!  This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though.  My kids LOVE the water parks, and we spend a considerable amount of time at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon in bliss!  There are lots of tips for dealing with the heat on the Moms Panel site, including visiting a water park, using a clip-on fan for your stroller, and going to the parks early in the day and in the evening when the crowds and temperature are lower.
    • The parks are crowded in early August, but usually a bit less than in July.  Disney does an amazing job of expanding park hours to correspond to crowds.  Since going in the evening when it's hot is a great idea, having the option of staying extra late is fabulous as well.  On some nights, when Magic Kingdom has Extra Magic Hours and the park is open until midnight, you can stay until the wee hours if you choose to.
    • The summer is rainy season in Central Florida.  Again, this isn't a bad thing in my opinion.  If you grab some ponchos, the frequent afternoon storms do a great job of clearing out the parks!
    • Disney is the quintessential summer vacation destination for millions of families.  My family loves being park of this "tradition."  We always travel in the summer and look forward to it each year.  An upcoming trip is a huge motivator when my kindergartner has a bad day at school!

I hope you have a magical trip!
