We plan to visit 2 theme parks and a water park. I’m confused about whether we need to purchase tickets in advance. Do tickets sell out?

Hey there, hi there, ho there, Susan! Thanks so much for coming by planDisney with your question today - I'm happy to help! Combining time at multiple theme parks and water parks during your summer visit is the perfect way to balance the fun while cooling down from the summer heat! You're in for lots of magical memories for sure!

Susan, you are more than welcome to purchase your Walt Disney World Theme Park Tickets in advance or upon arrival, subject to availability. The parks do have capacity limits that could result in tickets being unavailable, but in my own experience, this has never been an issue for us other than during the week of Christmas and New Year. For my own peace of mind and for planning purposes, I do personally prefer to purchase my tickets in advance for a couple of reasons that I'll share with you:

    • Save time upon park arrival - by pre-purchasing your theme park tickets, you will be able to have them linked to your My Disney Experience account and head straight for the fun, rather than having to stop at Guest Relations to purchase them upon arrival. My family loves to rope drop and get in the parks as early as possible to try to squeeze every minute of magic that we can.
    • Be ready to join a Virtual Queue or purchase Disney Genie+ Service - when your tickets are linked to your My Disney Experience account, you will have the option to try to join a Virtual Queue for TRON Lightcycle/Run if you're visiting Magic Kingdom Park or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT starting at 7 AM. You will also have the option to purchase Disney Genie+ Service and make your first selection starting at 7 AM. This will give you more options for attractions and maximize the value of this paid service.
    • Secure Advance Dining Reservations without worry - if you're planning to dine within any of the theme parks, you don't want to worry about having to cancel your plans should tickets be unavailable. By purchasing tickets in advance, you can make your plans more concrete without worry!
Susan, no matter what you choose to do, there is plenty of magic waiting for you! Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park just reopened yesterday and will be operational during your visit this summer! Whether you choose to chase thrills on the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster or chill out in the Castaway Creek lazy river, you're going to make a splash! If we can help with any other vacation planning questions, feel free to come back to planDisney at any time!

    See you real soon,
    Alison
