We plan to visit family, then drive to Disney in early 2022. What transportation is available to get to the resort if we returned the rental car before arrival at our Disney hotel? How do we get to the airport since the Magical Express is discontinued?

    Hi Nicole!

Welcome to planDisney! I am so glad you stopped by with your question, Nicole, because there are several options that many Guests might not consider. I have a few ideas that might make your trip as easy as possible.

First, consider returning the car to a location at the Walt Disney World Resort! Many people are unaware that there are two locations on property for car rental returns. The Disney Car Care Center has rental desks for Enterprise, Alamo, or National Car Rental. After you have turned in your car, you can get a complimentary shuttle from the Car Care Center to your Disney Resort Collection Hotel! I think this is the best option.

There is a second Car Rental Return at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort. If you were staying nearby at Disney’s Yacht or Beach Club Resorts, or Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, you could easily walk to these resorts, or head right to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Epcot if you had already dropped luggage at your resort. You could also use a taxi or a ride-share such as Uber or Lyft to other resort hotels.

For transportation between Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney World Resort in 2022, you’ll have a few options. If you have a smaller party, a ride share service is likely the most efficient. For larger groups, you could still consider Uber or Lyft, a taxi, or there is likely to be a paid shuttle service. Mears, the company that currently runs the buses for Disney’s Magical Express has announced plans to continue their own service on a paid basis in 2022. While details, including pricing, are still emerging, you can sign-up on their website to be updated when more information becomes available. I also think it is possible that as this new transportation market opens up, other companies or services may become available to service the many Guests looking for transportation to the Walt Disney World Resort, so I would check back in the autumn.

I hope this helps as you make plans for your trip next year! Please let me know what other questions you have, we are here to help!

    Have a Magical Day!
