I want to plan a trip for myself and 6 children and I have absolutely no idea where to begin. This will be my very first time planning or taking a trip like this and I just know that I am going to forget to plan something very important. Please help!

    Hi Candace,

Please don't stress! I know that planning a Walt Disney World vacation can be overwhelming, but you've got this. And the Disney Parks Moms Panel is here to help.

First, know that no matter what you plan, you can't do it wrong. It's impossible to do and see everything on one trip. So for your inaugural visit, I suggest you think about what will be most important for your family. Is it rides? Shows? Water parks? Dining? Star Wars? Meeting Cinderella or Mickey?

Then you can begin to set priorities and systematically work through the decisions about where to stay, what kind of tickets to buy, where to eat, which parks to visit and which rides and attractions you want to experience as a family. Years ago, when my daughters were young, we watched the Disney Vacation planning DVDs together so that they could point out what they wanted to do on our next trip. Those planning videos are now provided online, and they're a good place for you to start to get a feel of all that a Walt Disney World vacation has to offer.

One of the earliest decisions I would make is where to stay. If possible, I would recommend one of the on-site resorts because they offer benefits that will enhance your visit, such as Extra Magic Hours, MagicBands, complementary transportation and more. The family suites at Art of Animation or the Cabins at Fort Wilderness might be a great option for you.

Once you have an idea about the number of days you want to spend and the accommodations you prefer, I'd suggest calling a Walt Disney World cast member at (407) 939-1936. They can help you with hotel reservations and walk you through any special offers and vacation package options to meet your needs.

Then the really fun part begins: Making reservations for dining and FastPass+. Seriously. That's so much fun. When you get to that step, please check back with us for specific recommendations. My Moms Panel friends and I have many years of experience we're eager to share with you.

Just take it one step at a time, and your itinerary will soon be all set. No matter what I've planned on dozens of Walt Disney World vacations, Candace, one thing is always clear. The time spent together as a family is priceless, no matter what rides we do together, where we eat or which park we visit. We always go home with great new memories.

    So enjoy every moment!
