We would like to plan a trip to Disney Dec 09 with our 4year old son. We plan on staying 4 or 5 days and would like to be free to go back to our hotel for an afternoon nap. Which hotels/resorts are the best for this? and is one park per day realistic?

It sounds like you already have a great plan with scheduling naps for your 4 year old.  It's important for my kids (and us parents, too!) to take a break mid-day.

To the second part of your question:  Yes, I believe one park per day is realistic with a 4 year old.  If you have a day with longer park hours, I would do that day at the Magic Kingdom.  At this age, this is where your son will probably find the attractions he'll like best.  You'll most likely want the most time here.

Now where to stay.  The answer to this really depends on where you are visiting.   When visiting the Magic Kingdom, the best hotels to return to would be the 3 resorts on the monorail:  Contemporary, Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian.  A quick ride on the monorail and you're back to your room.

For visiting Hollywood Studios and Epcot, I would recommend the Yacht or Beach Club.  From these resorts, it is just a short walk or boat ride to your destination.

Animal Kingdom is a bus ride (or car ride if  you have your own transportation) no matter where you stay.

So what's the answer?  Really ANY of the Disney Resorts you will find to be pretty accessible.  With bus, boat, and monorail transportation throughout the resort, Disney does a great job moving guests from place to place.

When my kids were younger, I just made sure we started heading back to our resort BEFORE they started getting overtired.  By the time you walk to the gates of the park, take transportation to your resort, and get to your room, it can take a while, so plan plenty of time.  Enjoy your vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
