I want to plan a resort only vacation. Can you tell me which resort would have the best activities to fill a week's time and can we stay at multiple hotels during that time too?

    Sarah:

Although I could recommend any of Disney's Deluxe resorts or Port Orleans from the moderate resorts, I strongly recommend a cabin at Fort Wilderness.

    • Like with any hotel, the fort offers two pools and a marina with pontoon and SeaRaycer rentals. But what it includes that others don't are canoe rentals, fishing pole rentals, and bikes by the hour or day. Pedal the 3/4-mile route to Wilderness Lodge to enjoy a meal or two there.
    • They offer trail rides, a pony ride, carriage rides and wagon rides. If you're on a budget, at least take a peak into the stables in back of Pioneer Hall where they house the horses that work Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. For the more adventurous, check out the resort's Segway Tour.
    • Enjoy Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Singalong at least one night. It's free and includes a meet-and-greet with the characters, a cowboy leading familiar tunes and ends with an outdoor movie. Bring your own marshmallows  or a picnic of hotdogs and take advantage of the large fire pots.
    • The resort is home to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, a vaudeville show and dinner along with Mickey's Backyard BBQ, so you don't have to go to the parks to enjoy the characters or see a show. There is also a buffet, take out, and Crockett's Tavern.

Our family has vacationed at the fort so many times without going to the parks I've lost count. Of course you always can take a water shuttle over to the Contemporary to catch the monorail or hop on a bus to Downtown Disney for a change of pace, but of all the resorts, you'll probably find the most to keep you occupied for a week right at the fort.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
