We plan to go in August for our 3 year olds first time. I have been many times but I want to make this an amazing experience for her. What recommendations do you have for her at this age as a first timer? Will there be any festivals or anything in August?

    Hi Alyssa,

Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for submitting your question to us!

“Oh boy!” I’m so excited for your child’s first visit to the Disneyland Resort! I still remember my first visit fondly, and I’m sure they’ll have a magical experience just as I did! Don’t forget to stop by City Hall in Disneyland Park or Guest Services in Disney California Adventure Park for a complimentary “First Visit” button to commemorate this special occasion!

Your visit date will occur after the end of Pixar Fest, which runs from April 26 - August 4, 2024. I love how this celebration brings the magic of Pixar Studios to life through themed food and beverages, specialty merchandise, and even some rare character sightings! But during your visit, the Disneyland Resort will begin preparations behind the scenes for Halloween Time, which officially starts on August 23, 2024 (dates subject to change). But don’t worry, there’s still magic to be found during your visit!

I encourage you to review the attractions that are suitable for preschoolers. The filtered list here shows which experiences your child may enjoy. Most attractions have a certain height requirement, but this list will tell you the height requirement needed before you head to the parks!

I also recommend booking an advanced dining reservation for character dining! Goofy’s Kitchen and Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures are two of my favorite character dining experiences where guests can meet multiple characters before going into the parks! Your daughter can enjoy a buffet-style breakfast (don’t forget a slice of Goofy’s Famous Peanut Butter Pizza!) at Disneyland Hotel or feel like royalty with a three-course meal at Napa Rose to fuel a full day in the parks!

Finally, if your little princess has dreams of dressing up as her favorite Disney princess, book a reservation at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! The Fairy Godmothers-in-training will transform your child into royalty with an outfit, hairstyle, nail polish, and finally, a sprinkle of pixie dust! There are several packages available, so have your child pick their favorite princess and let the Fairy Godmothers-in-training work their magic! Don’t worry, your princess can keep their gown after midnight!

If you have other questions about the Disneyland Resort, remember - you’ve got a friend in me!
