Hello Elizabeth!
I love the educational opportunities at
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park! You have an excellent idea for a behind-the-scenes educational tour for High School Seniors completing their certification in veterinary medicine.
There are two 60-minute behind-the-scenes tours at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park available right now (these special tours need to be purchased separately from Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park tickets and are based on availability). The first tour is
Up Close with Rhinos and the second tour is
Caring for Giants (all about Elephants). During these tours, you can ask questions of the Tour Guides who are the keepers of the animals (typically veterinarians). I have taken the Caring for Giants, and it was a fantastic tour, and I got to observe Elephants up close!
Also, I would recommend going to the
Conservation Station in Rafiki's Planet Watch at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park (accessed by a short train ride). Guests at the Conservation Station see care for animals. Also, there is a Veterinary Treatment Room where Guests can sometimes observe a procedure or operation performed on a live animal. Guests can often see meals being prepared for the park's residents. Usually, there are show and tells sessions with live small animals where Guests can ask questions. The Conservation Station is included in Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park admission. I saw some live animal operations when I was at the Conservation Station.
I hope you can book a special tour and experience Conservation Station on your next Walt Disney World vacation!
