Hi Carol,
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so happy you turned to us with your question about planning a January vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
I love a January trip to Walt Disney World. Who am I kidding? I love a Disney trip any time in the year. But in January, the weather usually is dry and mild, and the crowds are smaller. It's a lovely respite after the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
I've found the least busy times in the theme parks in January are usually between the
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (January 6-10, 2027) and the end of the month, though you will see an uptick in attendance during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. MLK Day is January 18, 2027.
Even when the crowds are lower, there's still lots happening.
The Epcot International Festival of the Arts kicks off mid-month and includes lots of special activities like the Disney on Broadway concert series.
And, of course, Walt Disney World is always adding or improving attractions. Just in the last month or so, we've seen the reopening of the reimagined
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom; the launch of
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Hollywood Studios (with the
new Animation Courtyard and its shows and experiences coming soon);
Soarin' Across America at Epcot; and
Bluey's Wild World at Conservation Station at Animal Kingdom.
Imagine how many more new experiences might be available by January! Stay tuned.
Special offers for resorts and vacation packages for January haven't been announced yet. I would expect those to be released sometime mid-summer. So you may want to keep an eye on the
Special Offers page of the Walt Disney World website to see if there are any deals for your visit.
One more thing, Carol: Though the weather is mild in January, it can vary widely from highs in the 80s to occasional lows in the 30s. So packing layers is key.
Thanks for your question. Please let us know if we can help in any other way.
Enjoy,
Wilma
