If I plan a Disney vacation for January 2028. What is the best way to use, bank, and borrow points for that trip so that we can still have some free moving points in between time if our use year begins as of October 1?

Hey there, Sharon! Welcome Home - and welcome to planDisney! We're so glad you're here. It sounds like you are calculating some serious Disney Vacation Club math, and I'm happy to share some details about using your Vacation Points for many magical vacations to come.

Banking and borrowing points give Members lots of flexibility! Being able to combine points from more than one Use Year can unlock a longer stay, a trip during a peak travel period like the December holidays, or one in larger accommodations with all of your favorite people.

Although I don't know all the details of your Membership, based on an October Use Year, the January 2028 trip that you're planning could potentially draw from three separate Use Years:
    • You can bank points from your October 2026 Use Year (October 1, 2026-September 30, 2027). Be sure to check the banking deadlines chart and put a reminder on your calendar so you don't miss out on using these points!
    • The January 2028 trip falls in your October 2027 Use Year (October 1, 2027-September 30, 2028). You won't need to do anything special to use these.
    • Finally, you can borrow points from your October 2028 Use Year (October 1, 2028-September 30, 2029). If the booking you select exceeds your available points, you will be asked if you wish to borrow points. Once you confirm that transaction, the points will be in your 2027 Use Year and will expire accordingly - they cannot be moved back to 2028.

Sharon, to make sure you still have some points available for a vacation or two beyond the 2028 trip, I recommend spending some time checking out the Points Charts for the DVC properties. This will let you know exactly how many points are required for each resort, type of accommodation, and season. A studio at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa in September will use a relatively small number of points, compared to something at The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Christmas!

I hope this information is helpful for your planning purposes, Sharon! Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney, and please come see us again anytime if we can help with other questions about your DVC Membership or Disney destinations in general.

    Stay Magical!
