We plan on being at Disney Dec 16-23 with our 3 boys ages 11, 9, and 2. Have never stayed at a deluxe resort like Animal Kingdom but not sure if it is worth the extra money over a moderate resort? There is a big price difference!

Value is such a relative thing, Christine.  What may be "worth it" for one family is definitely a stretch for others.  My typical advice is this: if you are the type of family who enjoys spending "down time" at your resort, then splurging on a deluxe stay may very well be worth it for you.  Many families enjoy--and take full advantage of--amenities like fitness centers, table-service restaurants, and resort activities.  If, on the other hand, you are more the commando type of touring family who hits the parks from sun up to sun down, you might find that a moderate resort fits the bill perfectly, especially considering the limited time you'll spend there.  Much of the value any given family receives from their resort accommodations will depend upon how much time they spend enjoying the perks.  One more piece of advice: if the additional expense of upgrading your resort will detract from overall enjoyment of your vacation (and leave you strapped for cash when it comes to dining, for example) then I would recommend sticking with the moderate and making that budget go further to enhance the overall experience.  You can always visit the deluxe resorts to enjoy a meal and explore the grounds.  Good luck with your decision!

Given your inclination to plan a magical trip, I can already tell we have a lot in common. I'm Darcie, and my friends would be the first to tell you that Disney trip planning (especially dining!) is my love language. Of course, the vacations my family enjoys today look much different than they did when our kids were little, but while some of our favorite activities have evolved, Disney destinations still top our travel wish lists. Let's work together to plan a downright dreamy vacation for your family! Learn More About Darcie
