Hello! I would like to plan a Disney Cruise vacation for my family (four grandparents, four younger adults, and three teenagers) but with no previous experience traveling on a cruise ship where should I begin? There are so many options.

    Ahoy Colleen!

I'm so happy to hEAR that you are planning a multigenerational vacation with Captain Mickey! Disney Cruise Line has something for everyone...and for every age. And the beauty is that so much is already included on a Disney cruise: fabulous food, exceptional service, Broadway-caliber shows, and special memory-making moments with favorite Disney characters!

So I’m a mom of two teenagers, and let me just say that while they have grown up on Disney, their love for the Big Cheese and his pals has only continued to grow as they have! What we have found is that Disney Cruise Line has expanded their horizons as we have explored new global destinations. Deciding what Port Adventures you may want to participate in as a family is one of the fun activities leading up to your cruise. Those excursions have been some of the best memory making opportunities as a family that we've had.

It’s also perfectly fine to say that everyone will not be together all the time while onboard. Believe me, my teenagers love making friends and hanging out with kids their own age in the Youth Clubs. That frees up the grownups to enjoy the adults-only Quiet Cove pool, enjoy a spa treatment at Senses Spa and Salon, or go play Bingo!

When my family steps onto a Disney ship, we're there to unplug and unwind and spend quality time! One way that I'm assured of getting that dedicated family time is during dinners. Even if we've experienced some separate activities during the day (like if my kids have spent time in the Youth Clubs while my husband and I participated in a Beverage Tasting), the rotational dining on Disney Cruise Line makes it easy to all come together at mealtime. You can request a dinner seating time (Main Seating or Second Seating) and that your party be seated together or at adjoining tables.

One of the most amazing technological helpers that levels the playing field for first-time cruisers is the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. You’ll have the daily schedule of activities and entertainment at your fingertips on your smartphone: from when and where the “Anyone Can Cook” cooking classes are to where you can play shuffleboard to what time the Pirate Night festivities begin. You can even favorite an activity and the app will send you a reminder about its start time!

Fortunately, you are a long-range planner and have plenty of time before setting sail in 2022 to soak up information about Disney Cruise Line and the various offerings onboard your specific ship. Here’s the thing: this may seem daunting at first since you have never cruised before. But you can do it! Check out the Disney Cruise Line website and our planDisney answers to prior Guest questions as you research your ports and the specific ship you have your eye on. As you develop new questions, please come back anytime to planDisney to ask them!

    SEA ya real soon!
