Want to plan my 70th birthday at Disney World in Orlando with a family vacation - 8 adults, 6 grandkids. It's on Jan. 11th, 2021. What is the best way to start planning it? Any suggestions?? Where to stay???

Hello, Steve! It's an honor to join your Disney Planning Squad!

I think you're right to start your planning by choosing a Disney Resort Hotel. I'd suggest staying close to Magic Kingdom Park to enjoy nightly fireworks and quick access to this Theme Park. Disney's Polynesian Village Resort is favorite on the Monorail loop. Disney's Wilderness Lodge is also a great choice in this area.

Disney's Art of Animation Resort is also fantastic because it will connect you to the all-new Disney Skyliner. The Family Suites will be super fun if your grandkids enjoy movies like The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo! Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter could also be excellent, as it's charmingly cozy. I love it!

Guests staying at Disney Resort Hotels enjoy many super strategic benefits, especially for a large group. My favorites are the complimentary Extra Magic Hours, early access to FastPass+ planning, and Resort Transportation

I suggest making your reservation in February so that you can then decide on a Theme Park approach. I like to make a spreadsheet with the dates, deciding on Theme Park days, Resort days, and experiences so that I can fit everything perfectly.

Some of the best experiences at the Walt Disney World Resort require reservations 180 days in advance, so it's vital to have a plan before it's time to book them. When you're 200 days out, it's wise to have this plan ready to go!

One of the qualities that make the Walt Disney World Resort so unique, in my opinion, is that it's a fully realized vacation destination. With over 20 exclusive hotels, it's a place where you can easily spend two weeks enjoying different aspects of a vacation. I'd highly suggest visiting Disney's Wilderness Lodge for the Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White, for example, or Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge for a wine tasting session at Jiko - The Cooking Place.

It's vital to make your dining reservations precisely 180 days out so that you can get the tables you want at the times you want.

Finally, don't forget to use the advanced FastPass+ access to your advantage. This benefit is surreally strategic to score coveted attractions like Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, for example.

I hope that these tips help you make this dream come true, Steve! We will be here to help you navigate every step of the way, so don't hesitate to come back. We'd love to help more!

May the magic be with you,

    Julie
