Are there any places to fish with my own gear without booking an excursion and if so what are the locations, rules and fees?

Hi there, Angel! Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! Your trip is coming up next month, and it sounds like you are in planning mode! I'm happy to help you with your question! My husband is an avid fisherman. When he's not fishing, he's planning his next fishing trip, so I totally understand that you would want to squeeze in some angling while you are on vacation.

I just got off the phone with a Cast Member who told me that you are welcome to bring your own equipment for Dockside Fishing at the Fishin' Hole at Ol' Man Island at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside or the Bike Barn at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. You can rent a pole and purchase bait at both of these locations, as well. All fishing at Walt Disney World is catch-and-release only. I was unable to locate any other official rules, so it might be best to talk to a Cast Member there. Keep in mind, you will not be permitted to park at any Disney Resort hotel unless you are a guest or you have a dining reservation, but you can take Disney's complimentary resort transportation.

And as you know, you also have the option of booking a Guided Fishing Excursion with an experienced guide. It includes rod and reel, tackle, and bait, but you can also bring your own equipment for this experience. You have the choice between a Sun Tracker Fishin Barge pontoon boat or a tournament-style Nitro bass fishing boat. Both 2-hour and 4-hour excursions are offered. These are available from multiple Disney Resort hotels, and you can call for reservations. I have heard so many great success stories about these excursions that I am planning to book one for my husband and me this fall.

If you are looking for some indoor fun during your vacation, I'd like to suggest Splittsville Luxury Lanes at Disney Springs. Our family likes to grab dinner here and watch a sports event on one of their many screens or play a game of bowling. You can make reservations online for dining, a bowling lane, or both!

I hope this helps, Angel! If you have any more questions, please come back to planDisney. We love helping people plan their visits to the Most Magical Place on Earth!
