Is there any place in WDW to go scuba diving and if so, can one get certified there?

Hey there, Marta! It's totally awesome to meet you at planDisney and talk about some time in the Big Blue World! Diving at the Sea Base is on my dream list. I know I will totally be like "woah!" and then see something else that makes me go "woah!" again!

As you might guess from my enthusiasm, you can go scuba diving at Walt Disney World Resort through EPCOT Seas Adventures – DiveQuest. Every time I ride The Seas with Nemo & Friends and enjoy the aquarium after, I watch for divers. It's totally righteous, and I want to be one of them!

I saw sharks and sea turtles while diving on a Disney Cruise Line adventure last month, and now I really have this Enchanting Extra on my list for an upcoming trip this fall.  I can't wait to get back in the water and perhaps have another personal Turtle Talk with Crush.

To enjoy the experience of swimming with the incredible marine life, you have to be Open Water SCUBA-certified. You'll need to complete your certification in advance, since it is not currently offered at Walt Disney World. My certification program required 40 hours of self-guided instruction, a written test, two days of training in a pool, and four open water dives with skills tests. It was quite an adventure and commitment. If you are interested in diving, it opened a whole new world for me, and I love it! You should totally do it, dude! It's awesome!

If you're ready to dive into training, numerous certification programs are available. And you don't have to live near the ocean. I drove to Alabama to do my Open Water dives in a flooded quarry. It was fin-tastic! Your local dive shop is often the best resource for getting started. And I am shore you still have time if you want to get certified.

If certification is out of reach before your trip, you can enjoy the aquarium with the others in the human tank. You can check the signs or ask a Cast Member about when the divers will be in the water and any other spectacular happenings. I also like to visit near the end of the day, when the crowds are lighter. Then, I can just watch the rays, turtles and sharks. They are exquisite and mesmerizing.

If you have any other questions, please paddle back by planDisney. We're here to give you some fin and make sure your trip is totally jelly.

    Just Keep Swimming!
