Hi Mary!
Great to see you here at planDisney with a great question about the out-of-this-world dining experience at Space 220! My family enjoyed this unique restaurant in
EPCOT last year, and I’m happy to share some ideas for your family. I also have a picky eater and understand wanting to tailor his experience while the rest of the family can enjoy the galactic offerings of this special restaurant 220 miles above the Earth.
Space 220 is unique in that it has two sections for reservations and dining styles but once you are there, it’s one seamless space. The
Space 220 Restaurant has a fixed price menu so each person in attendance is expected to enjoy the meal for the set price. The
Space 220 Lounge is essentially the upper seating area of this grand restaurant but has a la carte pricing for their dishes. The lounge has bar seating but also tables with the same incredible view from the space station as the restaurant tables.
I was able to communicate with a friendly Crew Member up at the space station on your behalf, and they confirmed that while you cannot order a la carte lounge items in the restaurant, you may order the fixed price menu in the lounge. If your family has a reservation in the lounge area, perhaps your family can enjoy the full experience and your son can order something smaller that may appeal to him. If he doesn’t care for those items, there are many fun mocktails available or he would be welcome to sit with you without a set charge while in the lounge area.
While the Space 220 menu may not be your teen’s thing, there are so many other tasty ways for him to enjoy his time at EPCOT! Did you know there are 85 food and beverage locations within this theme park? The
EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival will also be happening during your visit, which adds
many more food booths for snacking and sampling throughout the day.
Depending on your comfort level with your teen exploring on his own, he may also enjoy some solo time at a nearby attraction while your family enjoys the full Space 220 dining experience. Immediately next to the restaurant entrance is
Mission: SPACE, a thrilling attraction that takes you on a journey to space as part of a team. There are two options for this experience depending on his thrill level tolerance and how prone to motion sickness he may be. (I suggest going on Green Mission the first time through!)
Test Track is another great attraction next to Space 220 where he can design his own vehicle and then push it to the limits on the indoor-outdoor track, racing up to 65 miles per hour. Test Track has a dedicated Single Rider queue, and Mission: SPACE typically asks for single riders in the regular queue to fill up the four-person teams inside the vehicles, so the line can move quickly. Both attractions are very teen-friendly and would give him a fun special memory to share once you connect after your meal.
I hope this gives you some options for your exciting visit to Space 220 at EPCOT, Mary. If you need to change your dining reservation, you may do so online or by
calling Disney to talk through your options.
To infinity, and beyond!
Amy
